The three pillars of Sikhi, or Sikhism, were established by Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of Sikhism, to guide Sikhs in living a balanced, righteous, and fulfilling life. These pillars are:
Kirat Karni (ਕਿਰਤ ਕਰਨੀ) – Honest Living and Hard Work:
Guru Nanak emphasized that one should earn an honest living through hard work and integrity. By doing so, Sikhs contribute to society positively and uphold ethical values, avoiding exploitation and dishonesty.
Naam Japna (ਨਾਮ ਜਪਣਾ) – Meditating on God’s Name:
Sikhs are encouraged to remember and meditate on Waheguru (God) constantly. This helps in developing a closer relationship with the divine, creating inner peace, and cultivating a sense of purpose beyond material life.
Vand Chakna (ਵੰਡ ਛਕਣਾ) – Sharing with Others and Giving to the Community:
Sikhs are taught to share their earnings and resources with those in need, promoting a sense of community and equality. Langar (the community kitchen) is one example, where food is prepared and served to all, free of charge, as an expression of this principle.
